myECOplan
myECOplan is a series of mini-plans outlining quick ways you can help the environment.
Food and Organic Recycling Plan
- Set a series of source points around your organisations where food waste is first incurred; it maybe kitchens/lunch rooms, staff rooms, canteens, tuckshops
- Collect soiled paper towels from bathrooms/kitchens (again in designated bins and use biocompostable plastic bags where required see www.goody.com.au )
- Collect shredded paper from sources such as photocopy room/ admin office
- Put posters in each room to show staff what can go into the food waste only bin
- Put all into PINK Food Waste Recyclers bin
- Bins will be marked FOOD AND PAPER WASTE ONLY
- Outline where all cardboard can be sourced (packaging, boxes for print paper, food, new machinery equipment)
- Make sure all staff know that all cardboard can be recycled
- Put cardboard into a designated cardboard bin/ collection tub; if you need a tub contact your local council
- Mark bins CARDBOARD ONLY
- All glass and plastic should be put into designated bins
- Mark bins GLASS AND PLASTIC ONLY
- Councils can pickup glass and plastic as part of their local service
- In South Australia many glass, plastic and cardboard drink containers are eligible for a 10 cent rebate….10 items is $1, 100 is $10 and 1000 is $100!!
- recycling
- eWaste (computers, screens, printers etc) Recycling Plan
- Outline to all staff that ewaset can be recycled
- Provide a designated bin/tub for ewaste
- Check with your vendor if they will take ewaset once you no longer need it
- Ewaste requies specialised prcessing to separate different parts to different sorting areas
- Contact www.ewaste.com.au or call them on 1800 392 783
New recycling streams and solutions are developing everyday as society realises the commercial, social and environmental benefits of recycling all “waste” streams. If you have an item that is not covered in the above groups please contact us and we will endeavour to find a solution to help recycle your waste.
Energy Reduction Plan
- Turn off all battery chargers at the power point when not in use
(this is something you plug your toaster into not a Microsoft application!!) - Turn off all battery chargers at the PowerPoint when not in use
- Make sure lights are switched off each night when the office is closed
- If you have a hot water system, look at how much hot water is actually used; it maybe smarter to use a kettle to boil water for the dishes, than to have a hot water system draining power to keep water hot all the time
If you have further suggestions, new ideas, or improved ways to address the above, please contact us as we are continually improving our ideas and processes, and would love to hear from you! Contact us
